About the Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH)

The Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH) is a service of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), developed to improve the visibility and discoverability of Diamond Open Access (OA) journals.

It brings together information about institutionally published and scholar-led Diamond OA journals that do not charge any fees to authors or readers. By collecting and harmonising journal metadata, the DDH makes these journals easier to find, explore and assess, while highlighting the publishing practices and principles that underpin the Diamond OA model.

The DDH was originally developed as a Key Exploitable Result (KER1) of the CRAFT-OA project.

Who can use the DDH?

The DDH serves different stakeholders across the scholarly publishing community:

  • Journals and publishers can increase their visibility and showcase their commitment to Diamond Open Access.
  • Publishing and service providers can contribute and maintain journal metadata, helping improve its quality and consistency.
  • Researchers, readers and authors can discover and explore Diamond Open Access journals.
  • Libraries and research-performing organisations can identify and assess Diamond Open Access journals and their publishers.
  • Funders and policymakers can explore the landscape of Diamond Open Access publishing and use the available information to inform their work.
  • Aggregators and other service providers can access and reuse journal metadata through the DDH’s data-sharing infrastructure.

How does the DDH work?

The DDH brings together journal information from a network of Trusted Data Sources, including institutional publishers, publishing service providers and other organisations working with Diamond Open Access journals.

Journal records are assessed against the DDH Diamond Open Access criteria, and their metadata is collected, harmonised and made available through the platform. The data can also be accessed and reused by external services through standardised data-sharing methods.

The DDH is a growing and evolving resource, with its coverage expanding as more organisations contribute journal data.
